What to eat and not to eat while you’re playing video games

Maybe you’ve never thought about it all that much, because you normally take anything you can put our hands on, food-wise, in front of the computer. Let me just go ahead and tell you that not a very good idea. The thing is that you actually don’t need me to tell you why it’s a bad idea because you already know. And if you have any doubts, it’s about the spilled drinks that damage your keyboards, all the crumbles that get stuck into your keyboards or all the grease you get on them and on your consoles. I’ve thought of you categories just to try to cover all the potential threats your computer/console might face when you’re hooked on a game (the same principles do not apply when you’re watching a movie).



This is a very important category since if you spill any you risk seriously damaging your computer and also being electrocuted. Sounds like a lot of fun, right?! Uhmmm…no! Unfortunately the situation here is a bit tricky. You do need beverages to be hydrated. If we’re talking about water or juices, the solution is simple: have it in a small bottle. After you drink it, put the bottle cap back on and it won’t spill. If you want milk or alcoholic beverages, don’t drink them or just put them as far away from the keyboard as possible and have a pack of Kleenex at hand.

Cooked food

Mom made some really tasty dishes, but you don’t want to eat them in the kitchen?! Well you have a 50-50 chance here. If they contain sauces or other ingredients that might drip then I would definitely recommend you making the effort and eating in the kitchen. If you have just plain chicken, or fries or things like that you can eat them. But eat them with a fork! The fork is of the utmost importance! It will keep your fingers grease free. Even so, make sure you have a good supply of napkins!


Here we also have to pay attention to how juicy a fruit is and if you have to peel it or not. My recommendation would be to get a plate and chop it into bit-size pieces. Even if it might seem extremely fancy, you still may want to use a fork or a toothpick. Grapes, cherries and all types of berries are usually no hassle, and pomelos don’t drip.


Yes, this is a difficult subject,because everybody likes to munch. Again…avoid greasy snacks! And yes, that means no chips, cheesy nachos, popcorn, peanuts etc. Keep those for when you’re watching a movie! But there is a way around this…packaging! Anything that you can eat from a package (without putting your hands on it) is ok! 😉 The same thing applies to chocolate!
