Ready or not, here we go again with a new year!

Hello everybody? Missed me? I hope you did, because I sure missed you! I was without internet access for the holidays, and I have to say it was an absolute pain! But at the same time I have to admit it was relaxing. And I did have a tone of things to do to keep we occupied. I went to stay with my parents for the holidays, in the town where I grew up in and I’m so happy I was able to do that because I hadn’t seen them in for ever. On Christmas we went to visit my grandfather and we spent the weekend in the countryside. It a tradition for the family to do that, although I have to say it’s not the same since my granny passed away. But it was a very pleasant stay nonetheless. I slept a lot πŸ™‚ mostlyΒ  because I was tired from the trip and also because I needed to catch up on some sleep. The last weeks running up the holidays have been quite exhausting and I needed to make up for them.

Monday I came back in town with my parents and I managed to meet up with some high school colleagues of mine. The meeting was a blast, although we mostly girls, we managed to chat until 2 am. The star of the evening was my best friend from high school, who now works in Scotland and came to spend Christmas in the States. We were all so happy to see him. I really wish I could go visit him someday!

Then, all week I mostly mopped around and help my mom make food for the New Years, because we had planned to have some friends over and when that happens my mom gets in a cooking fever! I don’t mind, I just shut up, help her and eat πŸ™‚

New Year’s Eve was a blast as well! We had our family’s friends over for dinner and spent a good couple of hours just talking, eating and drinking! What more could you ask for! But that wasn’t all, together with some other friends we had planned a New Year’s Eve party. We rented a huge hotel room and we partied until 6am. We danced our asses off!

So all in all I can say this was a swell holiday and I’m kinda sad it’s over but we have a new year ahead of us and we have to make the most of it! I hope you all had wonderful holidays and that you now have your batteries charged because this year we have to rock and roll!

What to eat and not to eat while you’re playing video games

Maybe you’ve never thought about it all that much, because you normally take anything you can put our hands on, food-wise, in front of the computer. Let me just go ahead and tell you that not a very good idea. The thing is that you actually don’t need me to tell you why it’s a bad idea because you already know. And if you have any doubts, it’s about the spilled drinks that damage your keyboards, all the crumbles that get stuck into your keyboards or all the grease you get on them and on your consoles. I’ve thought of you categories just to try to cover all the potential threats your computer/console might face when you’re hooked on a game (the same principles do not apply when you’re watching a movie).

This is a very important category since if you spill any you risk seriously damaging your computer and also being electrocuted. Sounds like a lot of fun, right?! Uhmmm…no! Unfortunately the situation here is a bit tricky. You do need beverages to be hydrated. If we’re talking about water or juices, the solution is simple: have it in a small bottle. After you drink it, put the bottle cap back on and it won’t spill. If you want milk or alcoholic beverages, don’t drink them or just put them as far away from the keyboard as possible and have a pack of Kleenex at hand.

Cooked food

Mom made some really tasty dishes, but you don’t want to eat them in the kitchen?! Well you have a 50-50 chance here. If they contain sauces or other ingredients that might drip then I would definitely recommend you making the effort and eating in the kitchen. If you have just plain chicken, or fries or things like that you can eat them. But eat them with a fork! The fork is of the utmost importance! It will keep your fingers grease free. Even so, make sure you have a good supply of napkins!

Here we also have to pay attention to how juicy a fruit is and if you have to peel it or not. My recommendation would be to get a plate and chop it into bit-size pieces. Even if it might seem extremely fancy, you still may want to use a fork or a toothpick. Grapes, cherries and all types of berries are usually no hassle, and pomelos don’t drip.

Yes, this is a difficult subject, because everybody likes to munch. Again…avoid greasy snacks! And yes, that means no chips, cheesy nachos, popcorn, peanuts etc. Keep those for when you’re watching a movie! But there is a way around this…packaging! Anything that you can eat from a package (without putting your hands on it) is ok! πŸ˜‰ The same thing applies to chocolate!

Well, that’s about it for now. If you have any ideas please feel free to comment!

Lara Croft – Sex symbol

I was playing this cute game on yesterday, called Shift-X-Mess where this hot female character, dressed as Santa’s helper shoots a bunch of guys, and it reminded me, for some odd reason, of Lara Croft. I then started looking up some news on her and I discovered the fact that she was getting a make over for her new adventure in the next game they have entitled Tomb Raider. And just as it happens, Lara Croft is actually one of my favorite female game character. I wouldn’t know to say exactly why I like her so much, it’s probably because she’s very hot and she can kick some serious ass :D.

I remember the way she was designed in the first Tomb Raider series. She wasn’t all that attractive in her looks, at least not for me as a girl, but what I liked was the story behind her. Lara was an intelligent, athletic archaeologist and adventurer just going across the world to explore ancient, dangerous tombs and ruins. I think it appealed to my ever present desire to travel the world and adventure seeking nature.

Over the years, and the they came out with different versions of the game, Lara got hotter and hotter. And we have to all admit it, her main attraction was her bust. In 2008, two UGO Networks and GameDaily put her at the top of the list of hottest video game characters. Not to mention the fact that PlayStation: The Official Magazine named herΒ  Game Babe of the Year. Now, personally I like the fact that she’s so hot, but the issue remains the fact that she walks a fine line between sexuality, empowerment and objectification. And this has always been the subject of heated debate. Regardless of that I think she just has to be seen as a game character and taken as such. If I, as a girl, like the way she looks and have no problem with it, then neither should other people.

But going back to Lara per say, I found her to look absolutely hot in Underworld. Of course the graphics were better so that helped a lot πŸ™‚ Just look at her:

Oh and at the end let’s not forget about Angelina Jolie πŸ™‚

Do you remember Worms?

The whole thing with Jazz Jackrabbit reminded me of another game I used to play when I was little, and which I was extremely attached to, meaning Worms. I’m sure you remember it because at that time it was extremely popular and everybody was playing it. I’m particularly fond of the game because I used to play it with my dad. I know, maybe it sounds cheesy, but that game was one of the things that gave our relationship a special something. It’s not something that you can describe in words, but it’s one of those feelings that makes you feel all warm inside and also makes you love your parents even more.

For all of you who don’t know what the game is about, I’m just going a few things. First of all, as you might of guessed it’s a game with worms and what they do is that they try to shoot each other.Β  Basically the players, in turn, move small worms on certain landscape (randomly generated) and they use whatever nasty weapon they can put their hands on to shoot the opposing worms. As weapons you have bazookas, shotguns, fragmentation grenades etc. Besides the simple appearance of a shoot-’em-up, in Worms you have to develop a very keen sense regarding the best angle and force to fire weapon. Once you get the hang of it you get hooked, irrespective of the fact that you are a child or an adult.

Personally, I remember that the game was so much fun especially because there were a lot of very cute sound effects. When the worms would miss their target, or when they would get blown up, or when they would hit the enemy. The good thing, also, was the act that it was a multiplayer game and you could go up to 16 players (too much if you ask me). But I once played it with my dad, my best friend and her dad. It was an absolute hoot!

So, if you’re looking for a funny shoot-’em-up game, with cute characters, but that can also satisfy you’re need for blood and terror πŸ™‚ I would definitely recommend Worms! If you’re interested, I know that most recently, they released a version for Wii and PlayStation Portable, Worms: Battle Islands.

I know it’s not the same, but right now I’m playing GunBot on It’s a really cool shooting game! πŸ˜‰

My favorite childhood computer game

I can just close my eyes and remember the excitement I felt when my dad brought home our fist computer, back in 1998. I was in the forth grade, and at that time it was really cool to have a computer because very few people actually had one. After an hour or two of setting it up and getting his way around it, my dad let me play on the computer. I was overjoyed. And the first game I played was Jazz Rabbit 2.Β  It was a platform game produced by Epic MegaGames, the sequel for Jazz Rabbit and it had actually been released that year.

I don’t know if you know about the game but the idea of it was for Jazz to chase Devan Shell (the bad character in the play) through time, in order to retrieve the ring with which he planned to wed Eva (his girlfriend). You also have Spaz, who is Jazz’s brother – a goofy and pretty crazy rabbit.

What can I say… that first night I played the game for two hours, and although my bedtime was at 9 pm (because I was in the forth grade), my parents allowed me to stay on the computer one more hour. I think that’s one of those moments in life that you can never forget and f you close your eyes you can actually visualize the way everything happened.

My best friend and I played Jazz for about 3-4 years. Then I think we kind of grew out of it. But I remember it as the most enjoyable computer game of my childhood. I think I even got to the end with it. I mean, I did get to the end with it. I absolutely loved the game. Ad since I was a girl I mostly appreciated the colors, the cute characters, all those places Jazz had to go to and the fact that there was a girl involved in the whole story.

I just became a tad melancholic, and I think I know what I’ll be playing tonight. Maybe I’ll invite my best friend over and play :).

What was your favorite childhood computer game?

P.S. Oh yeah, the game I’m playing right now is called Red Remover from πŸ™‚ Try it, it will get you hooked!
